Microcontrollers of the AT90Sxxx (AVR) family

General Advice

These microcontrollers feature data storage employing the EEPROM technology, as well as the usual program data storage using FLASH technology. Both memory areas can be programmed separately.

The lock-bits make it possible to protect the device against over-programming, and against unauthorized copying.

The fuse-bits make it possible to change the properties of the device.

With the aid of the programmer, the device's contents can be completely deleted.

Caution:

Devices with PLCC or TQFP packages – Please check the device list for a device corresponding to that device/package (e.g. AT90S/LS4434-PLCC44 or AT90S/LS4434-QFP44). These packages therefore will only be able to program with that corresponding device, and with the appropriate adapter.

Use the adapters in the following configurations:

PLCC44

Adapter 40pin DIL into 44pin PLCC

- Type 3

Adapter 40pin DIL into 44pin PLCC

- Type 2

( Article-No.: 210841 ) - old

TQFP44

FLASH Memory

In the Options menu, highlight this option to access program memory.

EEPROM Memory

In the Options menu, highlight this option to access data memory.

Note: In the data buffer the memory area above the last address in the program memory is reserved for data memory. (With the AT90S1200 with 1k program memory, this would be the memory starting at the address 000400h).

Lock bits

If you wish to set lock-bits, highlight the option Lock Bit 1 or Lock Bit 2 respectively in the Options menu. Please keep in mind that after enabling copy protection a comparison can no longer be performed.

The Galep-4 automatically performs a comparison after programming, and will only program the lock-bits after it has done this. Therefore you can easily program both the program memory and data memory, together with the lock-bits, in one session.

Fuse bits

If you wish to set fuse-bits, highlight the "option(s)" and/or "set bit-fields" in the edit-box (in Options menu) to the configurations you need from each, respectively.

Delete

When selecting this function, the program memory and/or the data memory as well as the lock-bits will be deleted, regardless of any previous setting.

Blank check

Regardless of the options selected the program memory or the data memory respectively will be tested. The Lock bits cannot be tested while in the serial programming mode (... SPI).

Save

When saving, the data memory contents will be written to a file if the option EEPROM memory is highlighted in the Options menu.

Error Message "Wrong Device"

You may occasionally get the error message "Wrong Device" even though you have used the correct device. If copy protection is enabled in that device (Lock Bit 2), the manufacturers code can not be read out. Erase the contents of the device.
