Galep for Linux
galep-linux-alpha1 21.08.03
How to install the galep-linux-software ?
The galep-software should be linux distribution independend but there are some packages
you will need for a successfully setup.
Later we will have an install-wizard so the setup-procedure will become easier in the future.
Requirements
- The first of all: You have to become a root-like user before the installation process can begin!
- gcc and make must be installed because we have to build the Galep device-driver for your kernel and your plattform.
- You have to use a linux kernel like 2.4.XXXX to avoid problems while the build process.
(type uname -r to check out this if you are unsure about your running kernel and it's version)
- The kernel-headers or better the kernel sources are required to build the device driver.
- You will need a X-Server and it's recommened to use a window manager like "kde" or "gnome" or ...
- GLIBC must be installed (at least glibc6_2.3.2x).
- The bzip2 and the tar utility must be installed. (Should allways be the case.)
Installation steps
- Go to the /usr/local/ directory...
cd /usr/local/
- Copy the galep-archive...
cp My-DownLoad-Directory/galep-linux-alpha1.tar.bz2 /usr/local/
- Unpack the galep-software distribution...
tar -xjf galep-linux-alpha1.tar.bz2 (this can take a few seconds...)
After theese steps you have a new directory named "galep"!
Change to this directory typing:
cd galep
ls - and you will see what files we shipped:
- device-driver
- galep-software
- setup (an executable setup-script)
- load-galep-driver (an executable that trys to load the kernel module)
- install.html (this file)
- ReadMe!
- uninstall
- It's time to type
./setup
- Now it should be possible to run
./start-galep
NOTE that you have to run the application from this directory (in the moment).
Another fact is that you have to load the device-driver manualy before you can execute the program as non privileged user.
The "start-galep" - script loads the device-driver automaticaly only as root!
- Known problems
- If there are problems with your GLIBC version, please make sure you have installed at least glibc-6_2.3.2!
- If the application does not start with the message "cannot connect to X server :0.0" please try starting a x-server or
type xhost+ in a root-console.
- Get a first impression and rember that it is an alpha-release - or tell me what went wrong...
Thats it!
