The Galactic Trade & Warfare Organization (GTWO) holds a variety of contests every cycle pitting the best scripters in the galaxy against each other in a "winner takes all" competition. Rules, sponsors, and prizes for the contest vary so make sure to read the contest details closely before entering.

These rules can change at any time (check the "Created" field for modification dates). If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about this contest please post them in the Arena Forum.

Contest #2

Created:

Contest Date:

121202 (December 12, 2002)

Type:

1-on-1 combat, winner take all with "zones".

Contestants:

Fixed Chassis Mark-3 Robots

(model numbers: 3x0A45C973, 3x0A455432, 3x0A458E27, & 3x0A4512EA)

Location:

Dustbowl in the Paragon system.

Description:

The object of this competition is fairly straight forward, eliminate your competitor and prevent them from doing the same to you. Each match will be 2 minutes in length. The winner of each match is determined by the following rules:

    • if the robot eliminates its competitor without being destroyed itself, it wins.
    • if both robots are destroyed or both robots are left standing at the end of the match:
      • the robot with possession of the most zones at the end of the match wins
      • if robots are tied on zone possession
        • the robot with the highest percentage of armor remaining wins.
        • if both robots have the same percentage of armor remaining, the robot that did the most damage wins.
        • if both robots tied on zones, armor, and damage, the game is a tie.

The contest starts with a qualification round. Robot entries will be grouped into houses (the number of houses will be selected to reflect the number of entries). All the robots of a single house will compete against all other robots of that house in a series of 1-on-1 matches. Each match will be scored as follows:

    • win: 3pts
    • Tie: 1pt
    • Loss: 0pts

The scores will be totaled and the top 1, 2 or 4 scorers from each house (depending on the number of houses) will qualify to compete in the final tournament.

The final tournament will use a single elimination tournament tree with the initial robot pairings being selected by how well they scored in the qualification round (the top 50% of the robots will compete against the bottom 50%). Each competition will consist of 3 matches, with the robots alternating sides. The robot winning the most matches goes on to the next level of the tree (the loser is eliminated). In the unlikely event of a tie, the robot with the highest qualifying score will continue to the next round (robot #1).

The competition will take place in the "Dustbowl Arena" on planet Dustbowl in the Paragon system (4th planet from the sun).

Rules:

  • Robot entries must follow all rules and guidelines and use only the commands and variables outlined in the Combat Robot Programming Manual. Make sure you only uses the commands in the latest version of the Combat Robot Programming Manual and not the C-Script Manual. Any robot found using a command, function, or variable not covered in the Combat Robot Programming Manual will be eliminated.
  • Due to the complexity of robotic combat, no set of rules can cover every possible violation. If a robot is using an "unfair tactic" it can be penalized or eliminated from the competition. Galactic Trade & Warfare Organization: Robotic Sports division has final say on the legality of a script. All decisions are final. "Unfair tactics" can include, but are not limited to, causing the match to quit unexpectantly (script error), dividing by zero, leaving the arena playing field (the first 1/3 of the entry hallway is considered part of the playing field), or directly modifying the robot chassis of your robot or your competitor's robot.

Entries:

You are allowed to enter one (1) AI script for each of the four chassis type (for a total of four scripts). You can not enter "duplicate chassis" (i.e. two "Rocket Robots"), each script must have a unique robot_type value (the rest of the script, however, may be identical if you wish). While you are encouraged to enter a script for all four robots, it is not necessary to do so (you may enter a single script if you wish).

How To Enter:

All robot scripts must be emailed to dposton@conitec.net with the title "Robot Contest#1 Entry". Include the robot script file(s) as an attachment.

Each robot script must run "as-is" (make sure to test it before sending) and contain the following comment block at the top:

// Name: <your real name>
// Alias: <optional name to be use in the contest>
// Email: <your email address>
// Robot Name: <name of your robot>

Prize:

The owner of the winning robot gets $100 towards Conitec software or upgrades.

Depending on the popularity, future contests of the same type may be held. If a user wins two consecutive contests, the will receive a $200 prize ($100 plus a $100 bonus). If a user wins three contests in a row they will earn the title "Arena Grand Champion" and will receive a $300 price (bringing their total winnings for all 3 contests to $600)!
